Another Dubious ADA

FAN Bulletin #595

May 15, 2006

Dear All,
We are all very familiar with the self-serving spin dished up by the ADA (American Dental Assocation) and that other ADA (Australian Dental Association) and now comes news of another ADA willing to sell our health down the river for the ever important buck - the American Diabetes Association. Below is the information we have just received from Ailsa Boyden in Australia on this organization’s  disgusting sell out to sugar interests.
Juxtaposed to this we have the sad news to relate that a very fine researcher on fluoride from India - Dr. Chinoy - who was a strong supporter of the Fluoride Action Network has passed away. All who value integrity in science will mourn her passing. I first met Dr. Chinoy at the ISFR conference in Poland and then spent a week traveling with her in New Zealand. Despite her failing health Reporter, Richard Kahn, the chief scientific and medical officer with the American Diabetes Association, said:  “What is the evidence that sugar itself has anything to do with diabetes?  There is no evidence.”
On 21 April, the ADA announced a “three-year, multimillion-dollar alliance” with Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, which produces sweetened soft drinks that are implicated in the epidemic of obesity and diabetes in the United State.  Its parent company Cadbury Schweppes, is the third-largest soft-drink manufacturer in the world, after Coca-Cola and PepsiCo.
“Saying that sugar has nothing to do with diabetes is like saying that tobacco has nothing to do with emphysema,” said Gary Ruskin, executive director of Commercial Alert.
“The American Diabetes Association has been so corrupted that they have sunk to the mentality of tobacco scientists who denied the link between tobacco and lung cancer.”
