Bulletin #666
August 30, 2006
Dear All,
An urgent reminder to all our readers. Please send in your letter to President Bok asking him to provide a clear explanation for the Harvard anonymous investigators’ extraordinary exoneration of Professor Chester Douglass. The Environmental Working Group provided damning evidence that he first hid, and then misrepresented, his graduate student’s thesis, which showed a robust relationship between young boys drinking fluoridated water and osteosarcoma (a rare but frequently fatal bone cancer). It stretches credulity to the limit to believe that this misrepresentation - which covered a 4 year period - was not “intentional” as claimed by Harvard on August 15. For more details on this extraordinary affair go to http://www.FluorideAction.net where you will see an interesting new design proposed for the Harvard shield if this matter is not dealt with openly and truthfully.
If sending the online letter, please make sure that:
1) in your first sentence you explain who you are (this personalizes your message);
2) put any higher degree after your surname;
3) if you are writing from a country other than US, include your country name after your town, and put “Other” for your state.
4) copy and save your letter before submitting, and
5) if you have problems submitting your message send the copied version directly to President Bok at
To date we have had over 100 individual letters sent to President Bok and over 180 online letters, many of which have been personalized. Please do what you can to get your friends and colleagues to send in a letter as well. They will be in very good company.
Below is a selected list of some very distinguished signers who have already sent in letters. If you are on this list please let me know if I have omitted or mangled your qualifications! If you are not, please forgive us, space prevented us from printing everyone’s name. No slight is intended, especially to those who spend so much time - and so selflessly - on this issue.
Many, many thanks.
Paul Connett
