A baby Bill with a mighty kick!

FAN Bulletin 796

April 18, 2007

Dear All,

Well the ADA, CDC, and most of the State Health departments may not be doing their jobs to protect babies from fluoride, despite the warnings in the National Research Council report (NRC, 2006), but legislators in Tennessee are doing theirs.

Yesterday a bill was introduced into the Tennessee Senate (Senate Bill No 2004) and the Tennessee House (House Bill No 766) which requires:

“All bottled water sold in the state which contains fluorides at more than two tenths (0.2) parts per million concentration shall have the following on each item of bottled water:

FLUORIDE NOTIFICATION: This water contains fluoride. (Symbol or drawing of  baby’s milk bottle surrounded by a circle with a line drawn diagonally across the circle, with the word “NO” spelled clearly immediately under the circle shall be adjacent or nearby.) The National Research Council has identified infants and children, diabetics, kidney patients, seniors and others as being at greater risk for harmful effects for ingested fluoride.”

“All bottled water sold in the state which contains fluorides at less than or equal to two tenths (0.2) parts per million concentration shall have the following on each item of bottled water:

FLUORIDE NOTIFICATION: This water contains fluoride. (Symbol or drawing of baby’s milk bottle surrounded by a circle with the word “YES” spelled clearly immediately under the circle.) The National Research Council has identified infants and children, diabetics, kidney patients, seniors and others as being at greater risk for harmful effects for ingested fluoride.”

There are reports of traffic jams caused by car loads of dental lobbyists and their friends in high places rushing down to Tennessee in an effort to crush this bill as fast as they possibly can! Hopefully, the Tennessee legislators will withstand the barrage of abuse that is about to fall on their heads for having the temerity to protect bottle fed infants in their state.

To forestall this baby bill being aborted please see if you can get your legislators to submit the same bill in your state. The indefatigable Dan Stockin  will provide you with the full wording of the Bill. Congratulations Dan, you and your colleagues in Tennessee are an inspiration to us all.
