Dear All,
In haste. I got back from Calgary on Friday. The trip went well. On Thursday midday I was on the CBC radio (Alberta) for 15 minutes. That went well. The weather was lousy, starting with heavy rain which turned to snow. We were pessimistic about how many people would show up for the evening meeting which was hosted by local MLA Dr. David Swann. I thought we would be lucky
if we got more than 40 people we got 80! Dr. James Beck, Professor Emeritus in Biophysics from the University of Calgary, spoke first and gave an excellent summary of the ethical arguments against fluoridation. I followed with the arguments that it is ineffective and unsafe. The audience
response was very positive a huge amount of energy in the room. It would be very exciting if we could get another major Canadian city (Calgary has a population of about 1 million) to follow in the footsteps of Quebec City and vote to take fluoride out of the water.
Once again I felt that Canada holds one of the keys to beating this practice in North America. The Canadian authorities are not quite as trapped by this practice as their American counterparts. Not so doctrinaire. The CDA is not as aggressive as the ADA. If you haven¹t watched it check out the 22 minute debate on the Medical Hotseat (Canadian Health Discovery channel).
Thus I am eagerly looking forward to my next presentation in Canada which will be in Hamilton, Ontario next Thursday (May 10). The meeting is being organized by Cindy Mayor. If you know anyone in the area, here are the details. The meeting is at 7 p.m. at Pause Awhile Tea Room, 31 Main St. (one block south of Dundas) in Waterdown. Free admission. Please call or
e-mail to reserve seating at (905) 689-4255 or cindymayor@hotmail.co.
Before that I will be presenting our case to the Yarmouth, Massachusetts Health Board at 7 pm tomorrow night at the City Council building. They have already heard from Myron Aleuken who described the evidence that fluoridation is unsafe as ³junk science.² I am glad that the board has made this effort to hear from both sides.
Sorry for the rush, but I am trying to get as much done as I can before I have to have a hip replacement operation in June.
Paul Connett.
