300 Professionals sign

FAN Bulletin 840:

July 17, 2007

Dear All,

Before we get to the analysis of the first 300 signers of the Professionals’ statement calling for an end to water fluoridation, a couple of notes.

1) If you are a member of a local chapter of the Sierra Club, please contact Gerhard Bedding (NH) at . The Sierra Club is coming up with a new position on fluoridation and this has to be made as strong as possible.

2) Don’t forget to phone your US Representative (Captiol switchboard : 202 – 224 -3121) to remove the clause from House Bill HR 3043 (the Health Appropriations bill) giving funding to the CDC Oral Health Division to promote fluoridation. Here is the clause which needs pulling: $14.6 M, an increase of $1.5 M, for CDC’s Division of Oral Health to expand state oral health infrastructure and water fluoridation programs. This is URGENT, the bill is being discussed today and voted on tomorrow. There is little time to make your voice heard. Thanks to all who have phoned already.

Talking points:

The CDC has already wasted hundreds of millions of taxpayers on this failed policy.
Don’t give any more money to the CDC to promote bad health policy
Instead put the money into targeted nutrition education and dental care for children of low income families where most of the dental decay is concentrated.
Fluoridation does not make sense because fluoride works topically not systemically. No need to swallow it. Silly to put it into the water. Most industrialized countries don’t do it and their teeth are just as good as those that do.
Instead of begging for more money the CDC should explain UNDER OATH why they are ignoring the 500 page NRC (2006) report which found many health concerns close to, at, or even lower than the level at which water is fluoridated.

An analysis of the first 300 names of the professionals who signed the statement calling for an end to water fluoridation worldwide.

Note 1: These names have been collected in just 19 days.
Note 2: The statement and list of signers will be posted on the FAN website on August 1, at which time citizens will be invited to sign an online petition of support. Each of these signatures will be sent automatically to US signers’ Members of Congress.
