FAN Bulletin 954
May 12, 2008
Dear Supporter,
Even while large jurisdictions continue to force fluoridation on their unsuspecting citizens, in many other communities both citizens and officials are educating themselves on this issue and the more people find out the less likely they are to accept this inappropriate and outdated practice. This includes our third victory within a month and discussions to end fluoridation in the place where it all started Grand Rapids, Michigan (see stories below). Meanwhile, we have exceeded 1,700 signers on the Professionals’ statement and over 11,800 on the Online message to Congress. Both call for an end to fluoridation worldwide.
The Toronto Conference
For those who want more information on the toxicity of fluoride or who want to join the growing movement to end this practice worldwide one of the most exciting ways of doing either or both is to attend the ISFR-28-FAN3 combined conference in Toronto this August (August 7-11). You can get the full details on this at http://www.fluorideresearch.org/411/files/FJ2008_v41_n1_p001-009.pdf .
With so much going on right now (especially in Canada), this conference might well be a pivotal moment in the final demise of this practice. One citizen activist is coming all the way from Australia to be there. You can be there too ? please register early! If you can’t be there in person, but would like to be there in spirit, please help someone else attend by sending a tax-deductible donation to AEHSP, 82 Judson Street, Canton, NY 13617. Make your check out to AESHP (conference support). Thank you. And now on to the latest victory.
The third victory within a month
Yesterday, the citizens of Littleton, Massachusetts delivered the third defeat for water fluoridation at the polls in less than a month.
April 14: VICTORY IN DRYDEN, ONTARIO, CANADA. Fluoridation rejected by a 1,902 to 292 vote.
May 6: VICTORY IN YARMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS: Fluoridation rejected by a 4,891 to 1,599 vote.
May 10: VICTORY IN LITTLETON, MASSACHUSETTS: Fluoridation rejected by a 759 to 324 vote. See http://www.wickedlocal.com/littleton/news/x2118735289/Wilkinson-and-Karr-are-selectmen-elect
The biggest domino yet to come
On top of these exciting results comes the news in the last few days that officials in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where fluoridation was first launched in 1945, are re-examining the practice. These officials should brace themselves for the political equivalent of a tornado as the ADA et al. will be doing everything their deep pockets and influence can do to stop such a setback.

2) Here is the first salvo from a local dentist in a letter-to-the-editor:
Fluoride successful
Corky Overmeyer, our city’s “director of sustainability” (whatever that is), is working with water quality specialists to determine whether to continue fluoridating our water supply (”Clench your teeth, fluoride fans,” Press, May 7). Might I suggest he consult some public health specialists at the same time.
Fluoridation is one of the most successful public health advancements in history and to even consider eliminating it because he’s been receiving “a lot of flak” from anti-fluoridation advocates is nothing short of idiotic. Do they still call it a “communist plot” like in the ’60s? How many of our tax dollars does Mr. Overmyer’s position cost us, anyway?

3) Here is a reply from Bernie Miltenberger:
Letter to the Editor
The Grand Rapids Press
Peter A. Paplawsky DDS. of Grand Rapids suggests that Corky Overmeyer, city’s “Director of Sustainability”, consult with some public health specialists at the same time he is consulting with water quality specialists to determine whether to continue fluoridating our water supply. It think this is a splendid idea. Bill Osmunson DDS, MPH of Bellevue, WA., is a Public Health Nutritionist with Masters in Public Health and a practicing Dentist. I suggest that Corky Overmeyer watch Bill Osmunson discussing this issue at http://youtube.com/watch?v=_Ys9q1cvKGk where he shows a scientific and common sense approach to reexamining water fluoridation. May I suggest the the public itself review this video and go to http://www.fluoridealert.org/ to get better educated on this subject.
