FAN Bulletin #966
June 5, 2008
Dear Supporter,
Thank you to all those (700+) who sent the Online message to the Louisiana State representatives over the last few days. In this we raised the arguments against fluoridation, but we are well aware of how proponents traditionally trump these arguments by using the “authority” of a long list of endorsers. We urge you to send the second letter (below) to the legislators which challenges the credibility of those who feel it is sufficient to put on a white coat and recite the pro-fluoridation mantra.
To send this second ONLINE MESSAGE please go to: http://la2.fluoridealert.org
Thank you.

Dear Representative,
Vote No on SB312: Please Ask Questions Before You Mandate Fluoridation for Everyone
In my previous email to you I listed some of the arguments against fluoridation. In this letter I would like to suggest two ways you can ascertain the credibility of proponents of SB 312 on this matter.
1) Can you find any dentist, doctor or professional body (including the Oral health Division of the CDC) to put their name to the following statement?
“I (we) have read the National Research Council report of 2006, “Fluoride in Drinking Water” in its entirety and I (we) can assure legislators that there is an adequate margin of safety to protect EVERYONE drinking fluoridated water from the health effects (arthritic symptoms, bone fractures, severe dental fluorosis, lowered thyroid function and impacts on the brain) identified in this report, regardless of how much water they drink and regardless of their age, their kidney function, and their nutritional status.”
2) Can you find any dentist, doctor or professional from any of the groups which endorse fluoridation to debate Dr. Paul Connett, the executive director of the Fluoride Action Network, should the House bring him to Louisiana for this purpose?
Asking the promoters of fluoridation these 2 questions is important because despite their impressive credentials many busy professionals are too busy to check the details on this issue for themselves. On many health issues the CDC is reliable but on this issue it is hopelessly biased.
Meanwhile, please note that the Louisiana Dental Association listed the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) as supporting fluoridation, however, in a recent press release (April 15, 2008) the NKF indicated that it has “no position on the optimal fluoridation of water” (see http://fluoridealert.org/kidney.nkf.2008.html ). I hope you will also take a few minutes and watch the videotape indicating that kidney patients are particularly vulnerable to fluoride ( see http://www.FluorideAlert.org ).
What steps would be taken in Louisiana to get these warnings to kidney patients should you pass SB 312
