FAN Bulletin 1037

January 14, 2009

Dear Steve,

First, apologies for getting the start time wrong for the Coast to Coast show (11 pm Pacific Time not 10 pm). This program with host George Noory was three hours long, and for me on the East Cost that was from 2 - 5 AM!!! Was it worth it? You bet, during and since that program we have had over 2600 more viewers of FAN’s video with Bill Osmunson’s (current total of hits = 95,354, see: http://www.youtube.com/user/fluoridealert); 10 more signers on the Professionals’ Statement; over 300 more signers on the Online petition to Congress, and many, many requests to receive this bulletin. Finally, the news is really getting out.

Other good news and commentary.

Australia. There is a short but sweet article in the Jan 11 issue of the Frazer Coast Chronicle, “Fluoride is waste of money, says Morris” at http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/Australia/Fluoride-is-waste-of-money-says-Morris

Indiana. And talking about saving money, officials in South Bend, Indiana reckon they can save $115,000 a year simply by discontinuing the testing for fluoride and sulfate. Of course, they would save much more money if they would simply stop adding the fluoride to their water in the first place!  However, this is a serious issue.  If fluoridation is going to continue in St. Joseph County then officials must continue to test.

* SEE the communities that fluoridate in St. Joseph County at http://fluoridealert.org/indiana.st.joseph.html

Louisiana. Yesterday there was an excellent article in the Baton Rouge Business Report. It is a real shame that such a balanced article did not appear before the Louisiana legislators and the Governor were rushed into signing a mandatory fluoridation bill. http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/United-States/Louisiana/There-s-something-in-the-water

Minneapolis. Jason Krueger, FAN’s representative in Minneapolis, has another excellent letter in the St. Croix Times http://www.sctimes.com/article/20090114/OPINION/101140031/1006

Pennsylvania. The Alliance for a Safe Environment (ACE) had an excellent editorial published in the Pottsdown Mercury, “ACE: Fluoride in public water is unnecessary and not safe.”  ACE has a good reputation in the Pottsdown area for preventing the expansion of a nasty landfill and also keeping incinerators out of town. It is really good to have them on board. Thank you Donna and Buzz Cuthbert.  http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/United-States/Pennsylvania/ACE-Fluoride-in-public-water-is-unnecessary-and-not-safe

South Carolina. Despite the silly (but almost obligatory) reference to Dr. Strangelove in the first paragraph, there is pretty well balanced piece from a Charleston paper, “System repairs pull fluoride from water until summer. Just Plain Water”  http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/United-States/South-Carolina/System-repairs-pull-fluoride-from-water-until-summer

Toronto. On Jan 13, The Bulletin, a free paper distributed downtown Toronto reproduced the statement from the Canadian Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) as an editorial. “Canadian doctors spurn hazardous fluoridation of water” - see original (with photo) at http://www.thebulletin.ca/cbulletin/content.jsp?sid=12664605798891371912784012642&ctid=1000136&cnid=1002015 and on FAN’s NewsTracker at http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/Canada/Ontario/Canadian-doctors-spurn-hazardous-fluoridation-of-water

Washington. There may be some very good news from Washington State in the offing. According to an article by Aaron Burkhalter, Skagit Valley Herald, Skagit County maybe rescinding its plan to fluoridate. The earlier decision to do this was made by just three Commissioners and the newly elected commissioner is opposed and has shifted the balance in favor of halting this plan. See “New commissioner may help cancel fluoride decision” http://www2.fluoridealert.org/Alert/United-States/Washington-State/New-commissioner-may-help-cancel-fluoride-decision

We are only two weeks into 2009 and things seem to be bubbling in our ? fluoride free - direction.
