Please vote to get fluoridation on Obama’s agenda

FAN Bulletin 1038

January 15, 2009

The Obama transition team has a website where they are accepting comments on any issue people wish to raise. Fluoridation has already been raised 4 times and as of 10 am today had received 29 comments (some duplicates) to date. The system is organized on a point system (10 points per vote) and so far we have reached a total of 670 points — and we need many more than that to be noticed. The “Health Freedom issue” which includes a reference to fluoridation has already garnered 18,470 points.

WE MUST ACT QUICKLY. Here’s how you can vote and/or leave a comment.

Go to the website: http://citizensbriefingbook.change.gov/

1) First register.

2) Then in the search button put in the word “fluoridation”

3) Then go the section titled “water fluoridation” click on VOTE UP and then if you have time scroll down to leave a comment and then click on submit.

If you have time to submit a comment please keep it SHORT. Please steer clear of anything that smacks of a conspiracy theory. In the first or second sentence please identify yourself in some way (occupation, and relevant qualifications or experience on this issue). Try to introduce just ONE health issue with documentation (and for a link you can always use FAN’s health data base which lists health effects by organ).

You might wish to work in the quote from President-elect Obama given at the top of their home page:

“Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave
our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today.”

I can’t think a better way of doing this than ending water fluoridation worldwide! What a gift that would be for the health and freedom of future generations. So if you want a short message to post use this: Ending fluoridation would make the world a LOT better place for our children. Please encourage congressional hearings on this.

We will keep you posted as our point total goes. Thank you.

Here is one of two statements I have submitted:

Of the many concerns that President-elect Obama has, two are extremely important in my view: one is doing something about our economy and the other is returning scientific integrity to the agencies which oversee our health and the environment. One action could help on both fronts: ending the outdated practice of using the public water supply to deliver medicine, namely water fluoridation. This practice is unnecessary (fluoride works topically), inappropriate (you can’t control dose), unethical (it violates the individual’s right to informed consent), ineffective (according to WHO figures there is no difference in tooth decay in 12 year olds between fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries) and unsafe.  Please review the 507-page report  by the National Research Council “Fluoride in Drinking Water” (NRC,2006). Of particular concern is the fact that fluoride lowers thyroid function at very low levels. This has huge ramifications for human health. With fluoridation there is simply no adequate margin of safety to protect everyone in society from these and other effects. Ending fluoridation would remove an unnecessary source of harm, send a clear message that we are serious about scientific integrity in government and save cities across the country millions of dollars of expenditures on fluoridation equipment, chemicals, testing, research and promotion. The FAN website http://www.FluorideAlert.org has a statement signed by over 2000 professionals calling for end to fluoridation worldwide.

PS Just got off the phone with Crystal Harvey. She is lobbying at the Arkansass state capitol today in an effort to defeat another attempt to introduce mandatory fluoridation in that state. She says she has already spoken to two state reps who said that they voted for it last time but they won’t be doing it this time round. Times are a changin’. The message is getting out!
