Brainstorming on the Rock

FAN Bulletin 1054

March 17, 2009

As we eagerly wait news of FAN’s new DVD’s availability in an unblemished form, at which point we will get this into mass production, we need your help in “building on the rock.” The rock on which we build is the Professionals’ Statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide at http://fluoridealert.org/professionals.statement.html.  This statement is a very simple and concrete way of demonstrating that very serious thinking and qualified people are opposed to fluoridation. Unlike our opponents they are NOT simply parroting “junk science.”  Ultimately our hope is that we will take this issue away from the dubious control of the dental community. It is important that when local officials are considering removing fluoride from their water they feel less intimidated by local dentists spouting the ADA line.

As the total number of professional signers keeps ticking upwards, I think we need to think of expanding the number and refining the credentials of those who can sign on. Rather than mixing many different categories together, should we not consider making a cluster of Statements from different areas of our society?

Please send in your thoughts, reactions and suggestions to these new categories:

*  Parents Against Fluoridation

*  Teachers Against Fluoridation

*  University Students Against Fluoridation (because many will enter professions, and others will become leaders in their communities. I have spoken at several universities on this issue and most students are ready to sign on the spot, but right now there is nothing for them to sign)

What do you think? Can we brainstorm on this?  At the very least we could set up separate Statements earmarked for members of these groups to sign. The opening of each might read: “We the undersigned (e.g. Parents) support the statement of the over 2000 professionals calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide. As (e.g. Parents) we are particularly concerned (about the fact that bottle-fed babies are getting 250 times more fluoride than nature intended; 1 ppm in fluoridated water versus 0.004 ppm in human breast milk)”

We would be particularly delighted if there is anyone who would consider trying to organize one of these groups or be part of a team linked and coordinated by email to  beat the bushes to get signers onto a particular group’s statement.
