Just back from a trip that took me to Geneva, Switzerland, Italy and Dubai. Most of this trip involved presentations on waste management, but I was able to get a number (over 20) doctors, scientists and environmental leaders to sign the Professionals’ Statement (PS) calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide. In this respect my short visit to Geneva was very important. I spoke at an executive board meeting of the International Society of Doctors for the Environment (ISDE). This is a very important group with over 20,000 members worldwide. I was able to give a short power point presentation and provide two copies of our new 29 minute DVD “Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation” (see below for a special deal on bulk copies) to each person present, as well as a copy of the Professionals’ Statement.

The immediate past president of ISDE, Dr. Vyvyan Howard, who is featured on the DVD, and who has signed the PS, was very supportive of this effort. The response from the board was largely positive: the German representative signed the statement on the spot and the Swedish representative asked me to send her a letter which she would circulate to her members. There was only one dissenting voice to a suggestion that ISDE adopt opposition to fluoridation as an official campaign, and that came from the American representative (a member of Physicians for Social responsibility, PSR). Although individual members of PSR have been supportive (a former President of the group, Dr. Andrew Harris, has signed the statement) the “official” response of this group to date - has been very disappointing.

An important milestone

We are approaching an important milestone in our campaign to get professionals from around the world to sign the Professionals’ Statement. The current total of signers has reached 2494 ? just six more and we hit 2,500. Of course, this is only a milestone and we will need many more than this to shake the (largely English speaking) medical and dental establishment’s belief in this practice. “Belief” being the operative word, because so many of the rank and file do not have the time to read the literature for themselves and simply take the assurances of the ADA and CDC at face value. In this case, not a wise thing to do!

It is a long process but one important way we can fight what amounts to a “betrayal of trust” by these authorities is to get more and more professionals to watch the DVD “Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation.” It will be a shock to many of them when they watch these 15 highly qualified doctors, dentists, scientists and others explain how little solid scientific evidence actually supports the effectiveness and safety of swallowing fluoride.

We have one weapon in this mighty battle with the powerful public health and dental lobbies and that is the truth. That is a mighty weapon, but for the truth to have its effect more and more people need to know about it. In this respect the internet has been critical (over 162,000 people have now watched the Osmunson video), but we still need the “one on one” education efforts from people like yourself.

So may we recruit your patient efforts once again to get this DVD out to as many people as you possibly can ? with a particular eye on getting the number of professionals signing the statement calling for an end to fluoridation worldwide as large as possible. The beauty of this DVD is that it is not confrontational and it can be watched in private. No one needs to witness the viewer struggling with the paradigm shift from seeing this practice as one of the sacred cows of American Public Health, to one that is outdated and needs to be ended as soon as possible.
