Getting ready for 2010

FAN Bulletin 1099

November 27, 2009

Its time to begin our annual fun raising fundraiser. We need your financial support to help keep FAN’s important efforts going for another year.

The dream of every citizens’ group is that one day they will find a foundation or a millionaire willing to infuse the money needed to educate the public on their issue. We’re still looking, but in the interim FAN’s supporters are collectively its “foundation” and “millionaire” that enable it to exist.

HOW TO DONATE:

– SECURE ONLINE: at https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=5061

– By Check in US dollar. Make payable to Fluoride Action Network, and send to Paul Connett, FAN, 82 Judson Street, Canton NY 13617

– $25 donation: we will send you 1 plain box DVD, Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation ($50 = 2 DVDs, $75 = 3 DVDs, etc.)

– $40 donation: we will send you 1 fancy boxed copy of the DVD ($80 = 2 DVDs, etc.) - a great Christmas gift!

As many of you know, FAN’s website provides important information on the science and health effects of fluoride. We also

* Keep track of the Victories

* Update the “Latest News” section on a daily basis

* Make accessible important documents such as Jennifer Luke’s PhD thesis on fluoride and the pineal gland.

* Submit public comments to relevant agencies, eg:

March 30: Comments on the European Union’s Public Consultation on Fluoridation ‘Working Mandate’

April 26: Submission to the EU Scientific Committee on Health and Environmental Risks on fluoride studies/reports published after 2004.

May: Three submissions to the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment for consideration of fluoride’s carcinogenicity

June 10: Comments to EPA on Dow’s proposal to use sulfuryl fluoride for pre-plant soil fumigant use.

August 24: Submission to EPA on proposed Registration Review of sulfuryl fluoride.

Nov 11: Response to the new Health Canada report on Fluoride in Drinking Water.

2010 is FAN’s 10th year in this battle. Why do we do it? Some see this as a peripheral issue compared with some of the other major problems facing our planet. We do not. It is a central issue because it is perhaps the longest running example of where a major public health policy has been propped up by poor - or even fraudulent - science. We have seen again and again how politics blatantly trumps science whenever this practice is challenged by new information such as the National Research Council’s review of the toxicology of fluoride in 2006.

We believe there are grave risks if journalists, scientific researchers, environmental and public health organizations, continue to tolerate a policy not based on sound science. The public’s trust is imperative in the institutions set up to protect our health and the environment. When our society loses that trust there will be untold dangers confronting us which will rival anything else we see today.

We hope that you will support that effort in many ways - as you have done in the past - but right now we need your financial support. We have set ourselves a target of raising $50,000 by midnight, December 31.

To introduce a little fun into this process:
One of our most loyal and generous supporters has pledged to match dollar for dollar we raise up to a total of $1000. So right now your donation is worth double! We call this person one of our “angels” and we are looking for some more!
