First a huge thanks to all those who have sent in donations to support FAN’s work and provide a coffer for 2010 efforts. Our current total stands at $4,405 from 42 donors. We are almost half way to the number of donors needed (100) to secure a very generous pledge of $1000, but a long way from our goal of $50,000 by midnight Dec 31.

Sometimes opponents of fluoridation are referred to as a “vocal minority.” Yes we are vocal, because we have to be. When the world is silent even a whisper sounds like a shout. The title I prefer for our minority, since I have met so many of you in person, is that we are an honest minority. Any great movement must begin with honesty, and I am reminded that the great moments in history do not begin when everyone jumps up and shouts “yes,” but when a few people have the courage to say “no.” In this case we say “no” to the government deception that has kept this foolish practice going for so long. Your donation to FAN - large or small -says in a very tangible way that you want to be on the right side of history on this issue. Needless to say, we understand that this is not as easy time financially for many and if you cannot afford a donation this year, please don’t fret. If you are the fretting kind your are probably do everything you can to help fight this battle in many other ways! Thank you for all you do.

Don’t mess with Texas

If you can find time out of your busy schedule, take a look at the two-part video of citizens testifying before the Austin Environmental Board on December 2. When I watched this tape - it seemed to me that I was watching something which is being played out in many communities across the world. We see both ordinary citizens and specialists, who have been shocked after reading up on this stupid practice, speaking truth to power. It had my adrenaline flowing - as I am sure it will yours. A few mistakes but that is only to be expected and dwarfed by the largest mistake made in public health policy in the twentieth century! It would be very powerful to watch this side by side with our DVD “Professional Perspectives on Water Fluoridation.” We could call it, “And now the people speak.” Let us know what you think about this video.

Taking things up an extra notch in Victoria

Today Daniel Zalec of the Anti-Fluoridation Association of Mildura, sent the letter calling for Dr. John Carnie’s resignation (signed by over 200 people worldwide) to every MP in the Victorian parliament. Let Daniel know if you want your name on this letter . Please don’t copy me because I will be out of town until December 16. Ellen will be keeping the updates flowing to you.
