Edging closer to milestones

FAN Bulletin 2023

July 11, 2010

Every email and every click on key URLs seems to bring fresh excitement here at FAN headquarters.

1) The Mercola-Connett interview.

We are getting closer and closer to a quarter of million visits to this interview and commentary. As of 3:30 pm today the total was 243,125 visits. If you have a website or Facebook, please add this link: http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/07/03/paul-connett-interview.aspx

Meanwhile, the number of visits to parts 1-5 of the 5-part Mercola series (accessible from our home page) have been 30,232; 9,490; 5,953; 4,268; and 3,496, respectively.

2) The Professionals’ Statement.

One of the great spin-offs of the Mercola-Connett interview has been the number of extra signers of the Professionals’ Statement calling for an end to water fluoridation worldwide. 180 have added their names since the interview ran bringing us to 2989, just 11 names away from the 3,000 milestone.

3) Point people for the next Mercola initiative

We have been looking for volunteers to act as “point people” to catalyze the formation of groups in their communities to start the process of getting fluoride out of their water.

So far we have identified a total of 60 “point people” from communities in 26 states in the US, 3 provinces in Canada, 3 states in Australia, as well as from Chile, Ireland and New Zealand. This is a great start but we need many more.

Please email me if you want to be a point person (http://fluoridealert.org/point.html) for your community.

4) The 4th Citizens’ Conference on Fluoride.

To date we are expecting attendees from California, Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia in the US and from Ontario and Quebec in Canada. We expect this attendance in person to be buttressed with submissions from fluoridation fighters on video from Australia, New Zealand and the UK. All will be sharing their ideas on “Organizing to Win: What Works, What Doesn’t.”

If you are not able to get to this conference there are two valuable ways you can be part of the proceedings:

1) Make a donation to help someone else attend. We have two people who would like to come (one from Georgia and one from Minnesota) but they are going to need some financial help to make the trip. If you use the donate now button on our home page to make a donation for this purpose please send us an email to let us know that you have done so. Thank you.

2) Send an item for the FAN FUN AUCTION. This item should be either funny, valuable (!) or have some connection to your fluoridation campaign (and please tell us what that it). Please send your item with a clear label attached with your name and address, to Connett, FAN, 82 Judson Street, Canton, NY 13617. We will be sure to read out your name before the bidding begins.

5) Full-time campaign director for FAN

We have had quite a number of applications for this position. Some of these have been most exciting. We are keeping the application process open to August 7, so if you think you have the skills and experience that could make a big difference to our efforts please don’t hesitate to apply - see http://fluoridealert.org/job.html. You might consider how your skills and experience would equip you to answer the following questions:

— How would you find ways to blanket the US and Canada with “point people”?
— How would you increase the number of professionals signing the Professionals’ Statement?
— How would you get the mainstream media to take this issue seriously?
— How would you put pressure on the US EPA to do its job and determine a new MCLG for fluoride, as recommended by the National Research Council panel in March 2006?
— What other steps would you suggest to end this foolish practice once and for all?
